Everything is as it should be, or so I found out. Throughout life, we fight destiny thinking that we have complete control. I used to like to think this. Experience has taught me a valuable life lesson – sometimes you just have to let things go because they are not meant for you. Perhaps it is the universe speaking to us in some way.

“Que sera, sera!

Whatever will be, will be

The future’s not ours to see

Que sera, sera.”

Lyrics from the song, Que Sera Sera by Doris Day

When I was growing up, my mother used to chant this chorus all the time. I knew what it meant but never really paid attention to its true meaning until I became a grown woman.

Have you ever had a decision to make, but it tore you? Or, you applied for a job and did not get it, but something better came along right after? Or, you keep coming across roadblocks which seem to be in the way of that “thing” you want most?

Throughout my life, I experienced quite a few of the situations as described above. After several disappointments and some triumphs, I took a deeper look at what was happening in my life. I had an epiphany of sorts and learned a very important lesson.

The life lesson: When you come upon obstacles in your life that seem to prevent you from getting what you think you want, let it go. Probably that thing is not for you. But if you find things are progressing smoothly, then it is just as it should be.

Some might call this destiny, and I want to agree. This created a conflict for me because I believe that we have some control over our destiny. We are the authors of our lives. However, life experiences continue to show me that while I have control over the path I take in my life, there is a higher force that directs me if I listen.

Take away: Listen to the higher voice in your heart; leave things to the universe. Follow the path you are shown. Have faith! Que sera, sera! Whatever will be, will be!
